Accomplishments

I get up every day, with energy and enthusiasm. My “why” comes from the belief that we can make Framingham the best it can possibly be, for our children, our seniors, and everyone in between. I relish the challenge of solving problems which go along with building a City that understands the value of coming together.

I revere the partnerships that I have built between our businesses, schools, and residents. I serve as your Mayor with the unwavering belief that when we come together, our collective efforts are far greater with strength.

I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I commit to you that I will always work to ensure that our city is a place of promise, of progress, and of pride.

This is why I do what I do. It’s not for recognition or reward, but because I believe in the power of community, the strength of unity, and the potential of our city. Together, we can create a brighter future for all of us, where families can thrive, businesses can grow, and every resident feels valued.

Some of My Accomplishments

  • Farmers Market

When Charlie was elected, he asked Robin (his wife) what she thought was something he could quickly tackle that would be beneficial to the entire community. Without hesitation, she suggested the fledgling Farmers Market. We expanded the Farmers Market by immediately eliminating the fees for the vendors. It made a resounding and positive impact and was greatly appreciated by all the vendors. Additionally, we expanded the hours so that working people could pick up fresh produce and meals. We went from a mere six vendors to currently over 90 vendors, and last season we were recognized as the most successful Farmers Market in MA.

  • FHS Tennis Courts

The tennis courts at Framingham High School (FHS) were in a state of disrepair which made it incredibly challenging for the high school students to practice and be competitive. Working with the athletic department at FHS and the Park and Rec department, we were able to create a state of the art tennis facility that has been enjoyed not only by the students at FHS, but also by the community.

  • Bruce Freeman Rail Trail

In early December 2022, Mayor Charlie Sisitsky signed an agreement with CSX to purchase land for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. Developing the rail trail was one of his goals as mayor. In the early 2000s, he was on the Board of Selectmen when a committee was selected to explore the feasibility of creating the recreational trail. The rail trail had been unused for many years and the City was able to negotiate with CSX for the purchase of more than 30 acres that make up the right of way.

  • Land Acquisition for New School

Mayor Sisitsky reached an agreement with the Sisters of St. Joseph for the acquisition of the property on Bethany Road for a new southside elementary school. Nearly two-thirds of Framingham’s student body live on the southside and it was determined that all the students who would attend this school would be able to walk to this school. The new school would replace the existing Hemenway School on Water Street.

  • Cleanup of Mary Dennison Park

The cleaning up and redesign of Mary Dennison Park has always been a high priority for Mayor Sisitsky and the community. The cleanup of Mary Dennison Park is nearly completed. In order to mitigate the cost of the cleanup, we successfully negotiated an agreement with Avery Dennison to pay for the majority of the remediation costs. This new park will provide residents with an accessible playground, fitness area, picnic pavilion, athletic fields, sport courts and a splash pad.

  • Arlington Street Playground

Mayor Sisitsky officially reopened the Arlington Street Playground last summer. New improvements in the playground include the City’s first splash pad, play elements and retractable Futsal goals within the basketball court.

  • Purchase of Marian High School

This project is part of Mayor Charlie Sisitsky’s vision to repurpose the historic property into a vibrant hub that will serve residents across the community from age 3 to 103. Nearly $6.5 million in ARPA funds will be used to secure the building by installing new windows, repairing masonry and installing a new roof. “The renovation of the former Marian High School represents a tremendous opportunity for the City of Framingham,” said Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. “We are not only preserving an important piece of our community’s history, but we are also creating a multi-generational space where residents of all ages can come together to learn, engage, and grow.”

  • Regional Emergency Communications Center

Throughout this past year, the Framingham Police Department (FPD) continued to work closely with the Framingham Fire Department and the Police and Fire Departments of the Town of Natick on our new Regional Emergency Dispatch Center. In 2024, we received a 911 grant from the Executive Office of Safety and Security and the State 911 Commission to proceed with this joint venture. A director has been hired and we are now in the process of upgrading and enhancing our current equipment and infrastructure needs. The center will begin operating in early 2026. The legal department helped facilitate the completion of the intermunicipal agreement between Framingham and Natick which established this district.

  • Creation of the Community Impact Unit (CIU)

At the Mayor’s urging, the Police Chief agreed to create a Community Impact Unit with three dedicated police officers to patrol primarily the downtown area. They have fostered a strong relationship with the business owners and have helped to clean up the area. They created a two-pronged approach of law enforcement and outreach to help those struggling with untreated mental health issues, homelessness, and addiction.

  • Downtown Business Expo

In conjunction with Downtown Framingham Inc. and the downtown businesses, we held the first annual business expo which included a fashion show featuring apparel from the downtown businesses. This was so successful that everyone involved looks forward to another expo this coming summer.
